Dane County is updating their decades old Chapter 10 zoning ordinances.  For the most part, the new zoning assignment for your property will result in no changes or impacts, a few zoning categories have been changed to match the Land Use plan adopted by the Town.  We do need to do our part to make sure our new zoning categories are accurate and appropriate though.

Information on the proposed new zoning ordinance is located here.

The County has a very good interactive map that you can scroll through and zoom into your property to see your current zoning and proposed zoning.  The Interactive mapping tool allows landowners to view the current and proposed zoning for any parcel, with links to the zoning fact sheets.  You can zoom to your location, or click the magnifying glass in the upper right corner and enter your address.  You can switch to aerial photo mode by clicking the icon in the lower right corner.  Clicking in the parcel brings up a window with links to current and proposed zoning district fact sheets, and detailed parcel information.

Once you have found your property a good place to start is clicking on your “Existing” zoning which will bring up the fact sheet.  You can then click “Proposed” zoning to see the detail sheet for your proposed zoning category.

Knowing your current and proposed zonings you can use the fact sheets to compare Permitted Uses, Conditional Uses, Lot and Building Requirements, etc.

Thank you for your patience while we move through this update.  It’s important that we all work together to make sure this is correct.
